FULL BLOOM

March 11th - April 2nd 2006

"Full Bloom," produced by the Vital Theater Company, has a lot going for it...…EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES....WELL-WRITTEN....CONSISTENTLY ENGAGING. “Jennifer Blood (is) CAPTIVATING…Jane …PERFECTLY PORTRAYED by Jennifer Dorr White….Crystal...WELL PLAYED by LeAnne Hutchinson Jesse...PLAYED WITH CONSIDERABLE CHARISMA by William Jackson Harper…” -New York Times

“As Phoebe, Jennifer Blood is NICELY APPEALING…“As Phoebe and Jane’s blue-collar neighbors, LeeAnne Hutchinson  and Jason Furlani …provide some EXCELLENT CHEMISTRY.” “Linda Ames Key’s direction sets the mood of the play well…Full Bloom is exactly what families need to “open doors of communication, Parents can learn about the issues affecting their teenage daughters. Sons can learn about how their treatment of girls makes them feel. And, perhaps  most importantly, girls can learn that they are not alone in their violent, passionate, and often frustrating emotions, and start  dealing with those emotions productively….  [This play] can be an excellent way to begin important conversations, and to bring often-hidden feelings into the open.  If for no other reason than that, every family with adolescents should certainly attend, and talk about what they’ve seen.

FULL BLOOM tells the story of Phoebe, a teenaged New Yorker, trying to come to terms with a culture that seems to care more about how a woman looks than about what she thinks or can do. Her father has recently left her mother for a younger woman. Their attractive, thirty-something neighbor is contemplating plastic surgery to better compete for acting jobs, and a young boy, who shares Phoebe’s interests, just wants to be her friend. Amidst these mixed messages Phoebe tries to make sense of the not always welcome attention of her blossoming body. The articulate and intelligent characters in this surprisingly funny play take the audience on a subtle, devastating and ultimately hopeful journey through a transformative period in Phoebe’s life.

FULL BLOOM, written by Suzanne Bradbeer (The Sleeping Girl, The Roof,Lone Star Grace) and directed by Linda Ames Key (Fringe First Winners BANG BANG YOU’RE DEAD, THE LARAMIE PROJECT) was developed as part of The New Harmony Project Writers Conference and originally produced at Barrington Stage Company, where is was named Best New Play of the Season by the Berkshire Eagle and went on to be published in the Smith and Kraus anthology Women Playwrights – The Best Plays of 2000.

FULL BLOOM is being given its New York premiere by the AUDELCO and INNOVATIVE THEATRE AWARD nominated Vital Theatre Company, six time winner of the AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE by the Off Off Broadway Review for both its Adult and Children’s productions and twice named THEATRE COMPANY OF THE YEAR by the NYTHEATRE.COM.
